“Dynamics of a mobile impurity in a Bose–Einstein condensate: interaction-range effects and non-Markovian dynamics”
Abstract
Mobile impurities immersed in a Bose-Einstein condensate provide a paradigmatic setting for studying quasiparticles in strongly correlated quantum matter. They offer a controllable platform for investigating dressing, effective mass and nonequilibrium dynamics in many-body systems. I will discuss the dynamics of a mobile Bose polaron with both conventional short-range interactions as well as long-range ion-atom potentials. The long-range interactions can dramatically slow down the relaxation of impurity momentum while producing dressing clouds of similar spatial extent to those generated by short-range potentials. Remarkably, despite these similar cloud sizes, the resulting effective masses can differ substantially, highlighting the important role of the interaction range. The dynamics exhibits robust damped oscillations, pointing to the importance of memory effects and non-Markovian behavior in impurity–bath interactions.
